This house was strategically purchased by the owner for a proposed extensive renovation that would be built above, beside, in front and behind the existing dwelling, to take advantage of its elevated outlook. The main elements in the client brief were views to the west, maximising light throughout, open plan living, with large cantilevered sections throughout the design.

The only elements of the front facade of the previous dwelling that were kept in the finished design, was the porch and the two front windows. The dwelling is zoned on three different levels with an internal lift connecting all three. The garage is on the ground floor level that leads up to first floor, which incorporates formal lounge, guest bedroom, theatre room, family room and kitchenette. This goes through to the gym, steam room, spa and pool that also opens out onto the feature decking. At the top of the feature stair on the second level is the main kitchen, meals and living that look out to the front balcony and to exquisite views of Ballarat. Also located on the top floor are the master bedroom, walk-in-robe, ensuite, three bedrooms and a study. All of this is incorporated in the substantial 85.5 sq’s footprint.
